Close to 1,000 Attend FAU Concert to Kick off Annual Music Scholarship Event

BOCA RATON, FL (April 15, 2008) Close to 1,000 people recently attended a concert by The Duprees, Charlie Thomas’s Drifters and Peggy March at Florida Atlantic University.  The Duprees, who have been performing their distinctive style of music since the early 1960s, performed many of their unforgettable hits including “You Belong to Me.”   The Charlie Thomas’ Drifters, a group with an equally long history, performed a string of 1960s hits including “Up on the Roof” and “Under the Boardwalk.”  Peggy March sang her breakthrough 1963 hit “I Will Follow Him,” the song which secured her fame as the youngest female artist to have a number one hit, a record that stands to the present day.

The concert was a kick-off event for an annual fundraiser to benefit the department of music in the School of the Arts in FAU’s Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters   The concert was sponsored by philanthropists Michael and DeeDee Groskin.  Majic 102.7 was a co-sponsor of the concert, and radio personality Mindy Lang was the MC.  Proceeds from the concert will help to fund endowed music scholarships for FAU music students.  For further information about the event or about scholarships in the FAU department of music, call 561-297-3606.
