FAU Presents Student Dance Performance
BOCA RATON, FL (April 26, 2006) – Florida Atlantic University’s School of the Arts will present “Dances We Dance” on Wednesday, May 3 at 7 p.m. in the University Theatre on FAU’s Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road. General admission is $5, and tickets may be purchased at the door one hour prior to performance. Proceeds from admission will benefit FAU’s dance program.
The concert is a showcase of student choreographic pieces exhibiting several dance genres. It will feature Talley Beatty’s “The Mourner’s Bench” (1947) from “Southern Landscapes.” It is a riveting solo based on Howard Fast’s book “Freedom Road” about a town ravaged by the Ku Klux Klan. The dance is set to the newly reissued music of the Tuskeegee Institute Choir singing “There is a Balm in Gilead.”
FAU’s dance program is directed by Clarence Brooks, a professor of theatre who was formerly the dance director at the Bak Middle School of the Arts in Riviera Beach. Brooks is also on the board of Florida Dance Educators and the Florida Dance Association.
This performance is sponsored by the dance program in the department of theatre in FAU’s Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters. For further information about the concert or about FAU’s dance classes, call 561-297-0266.
