FAU Football Coach Howard
Schnellenberger to Speak at Torch Club
BOCA RATON, FL (April 3, 2006) – Florida Atlantic University head football coach Howard Schnellenberger will speak on “Who Needs Football Anyway?” before the Boca Raton chapter of the International Torch Club on Tuesday, April 11. The event will begin at 6:15 p.m. with a cash bar, followed by dinner at 6:45 p.m. The event is open to the public.
Schnellenberger gained legendary status first as the offensive coordinator for Don Shula and the Miami Dolphins by leading the team’s offensive strategy during the NFL’s only perfect season. He then resurrected the University of Miami’s football program from near extinction to a national championship. Schnellenberger was then called home to lead the University of Louisville, a program best know for its rich basketball tradition, to a top-10 rank and a victory over his beloved Alabama. Schnellenberger was hired by FAU in 1998 to bring football to FAU. In Schnellenberger style, he brought the program to life with its first class in 2000 as he guided the program on a record setting pace to NCAA post-season play, victories over Bowl participants and Division I status. In 2006, the Owls will take the gridiron against Clemson, Kansas State, Oklahoma State and Steve Spurrier’s South Carolina Gamecocks.
The Torch Club is an international organization that has the goal of enriching members’ knowledge through the sharing of professional skills and experiences. The cost of admission for this event is $35. The event will be held at the Boca Raton Country Club, 7751 Boca Club Blvd. For information or reservations, call Ed Skiko at 561-392-7573.
