BOCA RATON, FL (March 28, 2008) – Florida Atlantic University graduate student Tiffani Thomas has received the Award of Excellence in the 23rd annual Architecture in Perspective competition sponsored by the American Society of Architectural Illustrators (ASAI).
Thomas’ work, “Wheels,” is a still image derived from a 3D computer animation from her Master of Fine Arts in Computer Arts portfolio. She was selected by jury from more than 500 entries to exhibit in their traveling exhibition and will be represented in the society's annual catalogue.
“I truly loved researching and creating this studio piece, and I am so pleased that it was recognized by the ASAI in this fashion,” said Thomas. “Every year that I have been a member of the organization I have entered in the competition, and this is the first year I have been honored. The environment of creativity within the program at FAU has allowed me to achieve a goal for which I have long strived.”
Thomas’ project is one of 60 pieces of artwork that will be on the tour, which opens on September 4 at Montana State University’s Cheever Gallery. Her piece focuses on the evolution of the Ferris wheel, featuring five of the great “big wheels” of all times, ending with the Singapore Flyer which is due to open this year (standing 178 meters tall). The traveling illustration will be 18-inches-by-8-feet in size.
ASAI is a nonprofit, international, professional organization of architectural illustrators, whose goals are to foster communication among architectural illustrators, to raise the standards of architectural illustration and to acquaint the public with the importance of such drawing as integral to the practice of architecture.
