FAU Foundation Holds
Third Annual Recognition Reception
for Donors
BOCA RATON, FL (March 28, 2006) - The Florida Atlantic University Foundation held its Third Annual Recognition Reception for donors on Thursday, March 16, 2006, on the Boca Raton campus. The event paid special tribute to those donors who are members of FAU’s two long-standing giving societies – the President’s Club and the 1961 Society. A record number of 250 attendees gathered in the Sean Stein Pavilion of FAU’s College of Business for a program that included live jazz, a special dance performance by the FAU Hellenic Student Association and a light buffet dinner. A cross-generational mix of donors, alumni, faculty, staff and students mingled in the pavilion, which was transformed for the evening into a glitzy Hollywood-style Academy Award party venue complete with a red carpet.
FAU President Frank T. Brogan ’81 honored longtime donor Ann Adams with the President’s Club Lifetime Achievement Award. For many years Adams has supported the Mayan studies program in the anthropology department of the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters. The President’s Club recognizes donors who have made contributions of cash with a cumulative total or value of $10,000 or more, or those who have given gifts-in-kind with a cumulative value of $50,000 or more.
Dr. Lawrence Davenport, executive vice president of University Advancement and executive director of the FAU Foundation Inc., named Jane Dugan as the recipient of the 1961 Society Loyalty Award. Dugan, a friend of the FAU’s women’s basketball team, was unable to attend the event as she was traveling with the team to the NCAA Division I tournament. Created in 2003, the 1961 Society pays tribute to FAU’s founding year and recognizes donors whose annual gifts range from $1,000 to $9,999.
“The Recognition Reception has become a standout event on the FAU calendar,” said Davenport. “Our community of donors has made a significant difference in the life of FAU. Providing funding for research, new and improved facilities, increased faculty appointments and scholarships, donors are at the core of this University today and in the future.”
