FAU National Alumni Association and Florida's Blood Centers Host VIP Tour of "King Tut" Exhibit and Reception

BOCA RATON, FL (March 3, 2006) – The FAU National Alumni Association hosted a reception for close to 200 FAU alumni and friends at the Reubin O’D. Askew Tower on FAU’s Downtown Fort Lauderdale campus.  FAU President Frank T. Brogan ’81 and Mrs. Courtney Brogan were on hand to welcome guests. The event was followed by a VIP tour of the “Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs” exhibit, which is currently on display at the Museum of Art in Fort Lauderdale.

Florida’s Blood Centers, the largest blood bank in Florida and fourth largest independent blood bank in the nation, sponsored both the reception and tour in a gesture to reach out to the FAU community.  Representing Florida’s Blood Center was Anne Chinoda, the organization’s president and CEO.  Kingsley Guy, Sun-Sentinel writer and Egyptologist, presented a brief pre-tour talk on King Tut to the group.

“We are delighted that so many FAU alumni and supporters were able to enjoy this wonderful show,” said Pat Breman, assistant vice president of FAU Alumni Relations.  “How fortunate we are to have a cultural opportunity of this magnitude virtually next door to FAU’s Downtown Fort Lauderdale campus. It has been wonderful working with our sponsors, Florida’s Blood Centers, in making the experience available to our constituents.”

As the “boy king,” King Tut remains a legendary character from ancient Egypt’s past.  The riches and treasures that filled his tomb and artifacts discovered in other tombs from Egypt’s Valley of the Kings, are now part of the stunning 130-item exhibit thanks to National Geographic, AEG Live Exhibitions and Arts and Exhibitions International, with cooperation from the Egyptian Supreme Council of Antiquities. The last show exhibiting artifacts from King Tut’s time was in the United States twenty-six years ago.  The current exhibit exceeds that show in size and scope.   The traveling exhibit began in Los Angeles, moved on to Fort Lauderdale, and by the end of its 27-month run, it will make stops in Chicago and Philadelphia.
