FAU Hosts ‘The Next Generation of Terror’ Lecture by Dr. Walid Phares
BOCA RATON, FL (March 21, 2006) – “The Next Generation of Terror” is the final lecture of a four-part series by Dr. Walid Phares in a course sponsored by Florida Atlantic University’s Lifelong Learning Society (LLS). It will be offered twice on Saturday, April 1, with a morning lecture scheduled at FAU’s Jupiter campus at 10 a.m., and an afternoon lecture on the Boca Raton campus at 2 p.m.
Phares’ lecture reveals the global plan of the Jihadists regarding America’s national security and its allies. He will cover America’s failures and successes in light of the 9/11 findings, and the status of current homeland security and U.S. Middle East policies. He will detail how Jihadists have infiltrated the U.S., and why the government was unable to detect and stop the penetration. He will discuss why the intellectual establishment failed to understand the threat and educate U.S. policy makers, law enforcement and the American public about it. Phares will reveal the Jihadists pre-9/11 and ongoing strategy of buying influence within the intellectual establishment through making multi-million dollar donations to Islamic and Middle East studies programs at renowned U.S. institutions of higher education.
Phares is a senior fellow at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies in Washington, D.C., and a consultant to the United States and foreign governments and institutions. He is a regular contributor on MSNBC, providing the latest analysis on terrorism, Jihad and Middle East events. Phares has authored several books and hundreds of articles over the last 25 years, many in Arabic and French. Born and raised in Lebanon, Phares was educated at the Jesuit and Lebanese Universities of Beirut where he obtained degrees in law and political science, as well as a certificate in sociology. He obtained a masters degree in international law from the Universite de Lyons in France and a Ph.D. in international relations and strategic studies from the University of Miami.
Registration for this event is required. Admission at the door is $10 per lecture, and passes may be purchased in the lobby of the auditorium based on availability.
