FAU Names Elaine Rainwater
Director of Development for the
ChristineE. Lynn Collegeof Nursing
BOCA RATON, FL (March 10, 2006) -- Florida Atlantic University named Elaine Rainwater director of development for the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing. Serving as a member of University Advancement, Rainwater will be responsible for all fundraising activities at FAU’s nationally recognized College of Nursing. Rainwater comes to FAU with 15 years of extensive fundraising and program management experience.
“I am excited to be assuming a leadership role in building a development program to support the outstanding work of the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing,” said Rainwater. “I look forward to working with Dr. Anne Boykin, her faculty and her staff, and being a part of their continued efforts to provide excellence in caring-based nursing education at FAU.”
As unit executive director for the American Cancer Society, South Palm Beach Unit, Rainwater was responsible for fulfilling that organization’s year-round fundraising, education and service goals. In her role, she was in charge of training, supervising and retaining a staff of six and a volunteer force of 200. Rainwater oversaw planning, implementation, marketing and evaluation of all major gift initiatives, and established an atmosphere of stewardship in her relationships with donors and volunteers. She served as staff leader for the board of directors, planned giving committee and gala committee. In addition, Rainwater successfully networked with corporate and community leaders to secure sponsorship and support for special events.
In a previous position with the American Cancer Society’s Jupiter-Tequesta Unit, Rainwater was responsible for reaching fundraising goals and objectives and building a greater community presence. She successfully increased the volunteer base, cultivated board leadership, implemented strategic planning and facilitated special events.
From 1978 through 1980, Rainwater coordinated training program development and employee retention and recognition for the personnel department of The Ohio State University, University Hospitals. In this capacity, she led the new hires’ orientation and training, as well as employee appreciation programs.

A native of Columbus, Ohio, Rainwater earned a bachelor’s degree in the history of art from The Ohio State University. She is a past member of Women of Excellence, a former secretary of the board of directors for the Professional Women’s Network of the National Association of Female Executives (NAFE) and a former vice president of the Jupiter-Tequesta Junior Woman’s Club.
