FAU Hosts ‘America’s Failures and Successes in the Conflict with Jihadism’ Lecture by Dr. Walid Phares
BOCA RATON, FL (March 3, 2006) – “America’s Failures and Successes in the Conflict with Jihadism” is the third of four lectures by Dr. Walid Phares in a course sponsored by Florida Atlantic University's Lifelong Learning Society(LLS). It will be offered twice on Saturday, March 18, with a morning lecture scheduled at FAU’s Jupiter campus beginning at 10 a.m., and an afternoon lecture on the Boca Raton campus beginning at 2 p.m.
Phares will present his analysis of where the U.S. has failed and succeeded in its war with Jihadism. He will discuss current state of U.S. security. In addition, the lecture will include an analysis of recent events such as the controversy over the management of U.S. ports by the UAE, and present deeper issues that U.S. policy makers and the public must address for the U.S. and democracy to protect itself and its interests and win the war against radical Islam.
Phares is an international expert on jihadism and Middle East affairs. He recently returned from Europe where he lectured in Paris, Brussels and Vienna, and participated in a meeting on Mideast policy and terrorism in Brussels. Phares met with the Belgian Defense Minister, members of the NATO committee in the European Parliament, MEP from France, Czeck Republic, Belgium and the EU Commission to discuss the cultural roots of terrorism and the reforms needed to address these crises in the Middle East.
A senior fellow at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies in Washington, D.C., Phares not only consults with both U.S. and foreign governments, but is a regular contributor on MSNBC, and also appears on CNN, Fox News, C-Span, al Jazeera, al Hurra, BBC and other media, providing the latest analysis of terrorist actions and Middle East events.
Registration for this event is required. Admission at the door is $10 per lecture and passes may be purchased in the lobby of the auditorium based on availability. Phares’ recent book, “Future Jihad,” is the course textbook, and may be purchased through the FAU bookstore.
