FAU University Club to Hold Annual Fund-Raiser to Benefit FAU Libraries and Scholarship Programs
BOCA RATON, FL (February 23, 2006) - The University Club of the Florida Atlantic University Foundation will host a black-tie optional gala at the Royal Fiesta Ballroom in Deerfield Beach on March 31, 2006, at 6:30 p.m. to benefit the FAU Libraries and scholarship endowments.
The evening, titled “New York! New York!” will feature a cocktail and hors d’oeuvres hour, dinner, and a silent and live auction. Performers Tony Mariano and Barbara Noel will provide musical entertainment with a repertoire that includes popular Big Band era standards, Broadway show tunes and contemporary hits.
Bess Myerson, consumer advocate, former commissioner of cultural affairs and classically trained musician, will serve as the event’s honorary chair. Myerson gained national prominence when she was crowned “Miss America” in 1945. As the first “Miss America” to graduate from college, Myerson raised the bar for subsequent contenders. Her example helped transform the competition from a beauty pageant into a scholarship contest. Myerson went on to become a popular media personality and activist for human rights.
