FAU Presents Exhibition in Animation, Video and Computer Media
BOCA RATON, FL (February 16, 2006) – The University Galleries of the School of the Arts at Florida Atlantic University presents “Projected Works,” an exhibition of recent student work in animation, video and computer media. The exhibition runs from Saturday, February 18 through Saturday, March 4 in the Ritter Art Gallery on FAU’s Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road. A public reception for the exhibition’s opening will be held on Friday, February 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.
The exhibition will consist of presentations shown on video monitors and video projectors and will represent a wide range of approaches to video art, film and computer communication including documentary subjects, computer websites, computer animation, video art and video documentation of art performances. The exhibition has been selected by faculty in the departments of communication and visual arts and art history in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters. Faculty include Eric Freedman (film, video and multi-media studies) of the department of communication and Blane de St. Croix (sculpture) and Fran McAfee (computer arts) in the department of visual arts and art history.
During the last two decades, artists worldwide have employed video as a favorite medium for gallery presentations, while simultaneous developments in computer and other communications technology have greatly changed and affected how contemporary life is experienced in many parts of the world. The “Projected Works” exhibition demonstrates how developments in electronic media are employed, studied and analyzed by students studying art, animation and communications at three campuses of FAU.
The Ritter Art Gallery hours are Tuesday-Friday, 1-4 pm; Saturday, 1-5 pm; and Sunday and Monday, closed; Student/Group tours are welcome by appointment. A one-time free parking pass and directions to the Gallery are provided at the information booth at the main Glades Road entrance.
