FAU Presents ‘Understanding What Every Baby Knows’ by Dr. Jacques Mehler
BOCA RATON, FL (February 16, 2006) – Florida Atlantic University presents Dr. Jacques Mehler, director of the Institute of Advanced Studies in Trieste, Italy, who will present “Understanding What Every Baby Knows.” The presentation will take place Thursday, February 16 at 3:30 p.m. in the Charles E. Schmidt Biomedical Center, room 126.
Mehler will present investigations that show what most results support regarding evolutionism and association of the human mind – this process and subject should be considered as compatible and complementary rather than incompatible and solidly opposed to one another. Mehler will present results from experiments with young infants in the domains of language, naïve physics and social cognition.
Aside from holding the position of director of language, cognition and development at the Institute of Advanced Studies, Mehler also is a member of the Scientific Council of Cognitive Science, a principal investigator consortium of the Human Frontier Science Program and a coordinator of research for “Language as a Cognitive Capacity, Perception and Acquisition” program for the Human Capital and Mobility of the European Community.
The Frontiers in Science Spring 2006 Public Lecture Series is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science, supported by FAU’s Lifelong Learning Society Endowed Professorship.
