FAU Hosts Lecture by Early Childhood Specialist
Dr. Sharon Lynn Kagan
“The Future of Early Childhood Education: Shaping Policy for Successful Practice”
BOCA RATON, FL (February 10, 2006) – Early childhood education specialist Dr. Sharon Lynn Kagan will lecture on the future of early childhood education and shaping policy for successful practice on Monday, February 13 beginning at 9 a.m. The lecture will take place in the Live Oak Pavilion, near the University Center, on FAU’s Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Kagan is a professor of Early Childhood Education and Family Policy at Teacher’s College, Columbia University, where she co-directs the National Center for Children and Families, a non-profit research organization. She is also an adjunct professor at the Yale University Child Study Center. Kagan has been recognized nationally and internationally for her groundbreaking work in the field of early care and education. She is a frequent consultant to the White House, the U.S. Congress, the National Governors Association, the U.S. Departments of Education and Health and Human Services, and numerous states, foundations, corporations and professional associations. A prolific writer, Kagan has authored over 200 publications. In her writings, she has focused on issues that include the development of an early childhood system, strategies for collaboration and service integration, policy for children, families, family support, early childhood pedagogy and the evaluation of social programs. In March 2004, Kagan was named director of the Office of Policy and Research and associate dean for policy at Teacher’s College.
