FAU Presents ‘Emerging Technologies in Breast Imaging: 2006’ by Dr. Kathy Schilling
BOCA RATON, FL (February 7, 2006) – Florida Atlantic University presents Dr. Kathy Schilling, medical director of breast imaging and intervention at the Center for Breast Care at Boca Raton Community Hospital (BRCH), who will talk about “Emerging Technologies in Breast Imaging: 2006.” The presentation will take place Thursday, February 9 at 3:30 p.m. in the Charles E. Schmidt Biomedical Center, room 126.
Schilling will talk about the limitations of mammography in breast cancer detection and the latest developments to improve diagnosis. This will include a discussion on digital mammography, computer aided detection digital tomosynthesis breast MRI and automated breast ultrasound and dedicated breast PET. This new technology will be available to the community through the Center for Breast Care at BRCH this year.
Schilling has been the medical director at the Center for Breast Care since the center opened in 1990, after a two-year stint at Delray Medical Center.
“I have held the same position since that time and have grown the practice so that we now see 45,000 exams per year and diagnose nearly 400 new breast cancers annually,” said Schilling.
Schilling attended the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, completed an internship in internal medicine at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, a three-year diagnostic radiology residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, as well as a fellowship at the same location in diagnostic imaging. She has been a member of the Boca Radiology Group since 1988.
The Frontiers in Science Spring 2006 Public Lecture Series is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science, supported by FAU’s Lifelong Learning Society Endowed Professorship.
