Hip Hop Class


Which classes are for ME?

FAU Group Fitness classes are categorized into three levels to help you decide which classes are best for you!

Level 1: For those who are new to Group Fitness programs and/or exercise.

Level 2: For those who are familiar with Group Fitness programs and/or have some experience engaging in moderate to high intensity physical activity.

Level 3: For those who are active in Group Fitness programs and are currently involved in regular exercise programs.


CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

BOSU Pump (Levels 2-3): Improve agility, balance, mobility, strength, and endurance!  This class integrates cardio and strength exercises to cross-train the whole body.

Capoeira (Levels 1-3): This Brazilian art form combines dance, martial arts, and the music of Brazil.  Capoeira is based on continuous rhythmic movements that increase core strength, balance, endurance, flexibility, and coordination, providing a culturally creative way to get a total body workout!

Cardio Dance (Levels 1-3): Cardio dance uses turns, sharp movements, and choreographed routines to give your body a great workout! Work up a sweat while having a great time!

Cardio Hip Hop (Levels 1-3): This high-energy cardio workout combines choreography with fun, fast-paced music.  No experience is necessary - everyone is sure to burn calories and work up a sweat!

Core Blast 30 (Levels 1-3): Offers innovative exercises designed to strengthen the core muscles.  Participants will utilize a variety of equipment including stability balls, BOSUs, resistance bands, and more!  Core Blast is an ideal addition to another class, or can be taken alone.

Core Stretch (Levels 1-3): Experience the perfect mix of yoga-like movements with Pilates - inspired conditioning necessary to strengthen and stretch the core!  This 30-minute class will improve your flexibility as well as increase core strength and stability.  It is the perfect pair to Cycle Express or it may be taken alone.

Cycle 60 (Levels 2-3): A high-energy, low-impact workout, mixing interval training, climbs, sprints, and more. Make this class as intense as you wish - it is YOUR ride!

Cycle Express (Levels 1-3): A quick and effective 30-minute cardio workout perfect for your lunch break or those on a tight schedule.  Cycle Express is the perfect pair to Core Stretch!

Define (Levels 1-3): Integrates a variety of equipment to give your entire body a great workout.  “Define” will utilize strength training to boost your metabolism and get you lean!

Fusion (Levels 1-3): This class is the perfect FUSION of cardio, strength, and flexibility training, all in one great class. 

Hip Hop Dance (Levels 1-3): Enjoy a fun workout while you learn footwork and choreography for hip-hop inspired dance. 

HootCamp (Levels 2-3): This high-intensity, athletic style of training is FAU’s take on the traditional “Bootcamp” classes!  Hootcamp combines cardio, agility drills, and strength training to give participants a workout that is sure to challenge the body!

Night Owl Yoga (Levels 1-3): Join us for a traditional yoga class after the sun goes down!  This class is the perfect yoga class for those who prefer to hit the gym at night.  Connect with your body, mind, and spirit in this fitness-based yoga class before you hit the sack.

Outdoor Cross-Training (Levels 2-3): Take your training to the great outdoors!  This class is a unique combination of running, agility/cardio drills, strength training, and general conditioning.  Outdoor Cross-Training utilizes the FAU campus to provide participants with a fresh change of pace!

Outdoor Core 30 (Levels 2-3): Enjoy the South Florida weather while performing innovative exercises designed to strengthen the core muscles.  Participants will utilize a variety of equipment including medicine balls, bands, stability balls, and your own bodyweight!  Outdoor Core is an ideal addition to Outdoor Cross-Training, or can be taken alone.

Pilates (Levels 1-3): Focuses on isolating, activating, and conditioning the body’s deep core muscles.  This mat-based Pilates class improves flexibility, coordination, muscle control, posture, and strength through physical and mental conditioning.

Tuff N’ Up (Levels 1-3):  Tuff N’ Up is an effective way to shape up and lose body fat. This total body conditioning class utilizes weights and is for anyone who wants to add strength training into their aerobic workout and get lean!

Turbo Kick (Levels 2-3): Turbo Kick is a combination of intense kickboxing moves as well as dance moves all perfectly choreographed to high-energy music. It’s the ultimate cardio challenge that’s a unique blend of intense intervals, strength/endurance training, and a relaxing cool-down. Turbo Kick requires no previous kickboxing experience or equipment.

Yoga (Levels 1-3): Connect with your body, mind, and spirit in this FITNESS BASED yoga class.  This relaxing and challenging workout is a combination of breathing, strength, flexibility, balance, relaxation, and stress-management techniques.

Yogalates (Levels 1-3): The ultimate fusion of Yoga and Pilates to create a strong, streamlined body. This class will leave you feeling taller, leaner and stress-free.

Zumba (Levels 1-3):
A combination of high energy, motivating music, unique moves, and combinations that allow participants to dance away their worries.  Zumba is a “feel-happy” workout that is great for the body and the mind!



Personal Trainer Prep Course
This course is designed to give students the knowledge and hands-on experience that will enable them to become a leader in the fitness field.  Students who complete the course will be better prepared to successfully pass a nationally accredited certification exam.  The personal Trainer Prep Course serves as a supplement for students.  It is a great resource designed to be used in conjunction with study materials for the ACE-CPT exam.  The lecture-based classes will cover topics such as basic and functional anatomy, exercise physiology, program design, form and technique instruction, client interaction, and more.  The practical classes will apply concepts covered in lecture, and serve to prepare students to work one-on-one with clients.



Group Fitness Instructor Training Course*
This course is designed to give students the background knowledge needed to become a group fitness instructor.  Learn the fundamentals of teaching various group exercise classes including: hi/lo, step, kickboxing, yoga, bootcamp, and more!  This 10-week course will cover topics such as basic anatomy and physiology, exercise form and instruction, safety considerations, program design, and more.  Practical classes will explore a variety of formats in order to give students a sample of what becoming a Group Fitness Instructor has to offer!  Upon successful completion of the course, students should be better prepared to take a nationally accredited certification exam.


*Some Group Fitness formats require specialty certifications (i.e. Pilates, yoga, cycling, BOSU, Zumba, etc.).  This course is not intended to be a sole means of studying for these certifications - it should serve as a supplement.
