AIDS COMMITTEE

Welcome
Florida Atlantic University adheres to the University's "AIDS Policy", as well as to all applicable laws, regulations and rules relating to non-discrimination against persons with handicaps. In order to insure adherence to these legal directives, the Florida Atlantic University Committee on AIDS was established.
Meetings are held monthly via video conferencing during the fall and spring semesters. The next meeting is scheduled for November 18, 2009 at 3:30 p.m.  The meeting will be held in IS 203 (entrance across from Einstein's) on the Boca campus and teleconferenced to the following locations on the partner campuses:  Davie - LA 150, Jupiter - SR 275, Port St. Lucie - JU 112; and Harbor Branch - MC 209.  Please call (561) 297-3516 for more information.

2009 World AIDS Day
AIDS Awareness Student Competition
Students will have the opportunity to compete for $400 in cash prizes, using their Literary Expressions (poetry, essay, short story), and Visual Expressions (poster).  The contest deadline has been extended to Monday, November 16, 2009 at 5:00 PM.  More information can be found here or by calling 561-297-1135.

HIV Testing
Students may choose from several testing options:
Today & Beyond Wellness
*Free, rapid HIV testing two to three Thursdays of each month (excluding holidays). Testing is conducted by Care Resource and offered in Today & Beyond Wellness (Bldg. SS8, Room 222 - above the Breezeway Food Court). This HIV test requires the collection of an oral fluid specimen. Results are provided in approximately 30 minutes and the test is FREE. Testing is done on a first come, first served basis and is offered to FAU students, faculty, staff, and community members.

December 10 - 10:30 - 2:00
Student Health Services
*OraQuick Rapid HIV test? This HIV test is performed using an oral swab; no blood. Results are available in 30 minutes. This test is offered by appointment only to FAU students.  Contact Jenna at 561-297-1120.
*Orasure?  This HIV test requires the collection of an oral fluid specimen. Results are provided in three weeks and the test is FREE. This test is offered by appointment only to FAU students.  Contact Student Health Services.
*Blood test.  This HIV test requires the collection of a blood specimen. Students may choose to receive results in three weeks at NO CHARGE or receive results in one week at the cost of $22.00. This test is offered by appointment only to FAU students.  Contact Student Health Services.
