Syllabus/Form
Guidelines
Go to
http://www.fau.edu/academic/registrar/UUPCinfo/ to find this template.
Every new course and every course change requires the submission
of a form and a syllabus. This is detailed in the UUPC Guidelines, same link as
above. A related reason for this is to keep FAU’s course inventory current both
here and with the Statewide Course Numbering System (SCNS).
For the syllabus, new or
existing:
1. Course name, course number, prerequisites,
and corequisites.
2. Name of instructor,
office address, telephone number, office hours, and eddress for contact. Also list TA details, if available.
3. Location, time, term of course, and website if known.
4. In body of syllabus, show course description, placement of
course in program of study, objectives, how students will be evaluated, grading
scale, instructional method (if different from traditional classroom), required textbooks, and supplementary
readings. For writing or computation courses, show those details.
The requirements listed above are the basic necessities in a
syllabus for the new course proposal or course change proposal to be approved
at the different levels: college curriculum committee, university curriculum
committee (UUPC or GPC), UFS (University Faculty Senate). Other details in the
syllabus will help the student understand the course better –
Course outline
for a particular term
Schedule of
tests, quizzes, etc.
Policy on makeup
tests
Expected outcome
of class activities
Statement on incompletes
(“I”) grades
Statement of
academic integrity
Classroom
etiquette
Statement
concerning students with disabilities.
Download the form from the link
above. Send the syllabus to erudolph@fau.edu
for a course number, if this is a new course. Fill out the form including all
relevant information. The course description on the form will be the course
description in the University Catalog.
