Revised syllabus for Psychology 4933: Advanced Writing in Psychology and the Behavioral Sciences

Psychology 4933 is an Honors section of advanced writing in psychology.  This class continues the study of writing in psychology and related disciplines, with the main emphasis on preparing students for the senior honors thesis. 

The class will typically culminate in a thesis proposal acceptable to both a prospective faculty advisor and a second reader. 

Textbook:

American Psychological Association (2001).  Publication manual of the American Psychological Association, 5th Ed. Washington, DC: Author. (Recommended)

Instructor: Dr. Kevin Lanning (lanning@fau.edu). My office is MHC 145; office hours are M 1-4 F 11-2.

Assignments:  Students will complete a series of written assignments intended to introduce them to a range of possible advisors for the senior thesis project.  In addition to these written assignments, students will be expected to make informal presentations of ideas for their theses, and to provide thoughtful and constructive feedback on the ideas of their classmates.

January:  Four short papers (~2 pages) on the research programs of our four job candidates (* below; candidates visiting Jan 11 - Jan 28).

February: Write-up and presentation of first brief thesis proposal.

February--March:   Write-up and presentation of a description of (or application to) one NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates site.

April: Write-up and presentation of second brief thesis proposal.  Topic and advisor will be different from the first proposal.
